Cherrystone Camp Ground on Eastern Shore ,Virginia

2 years ago my wife and i purchased a 29ft camper. This spring we towed it over to Cherrystone across from Cape Charles Bay Point Marina. While we were staying there we found out that they will store your camper year round for $365 a year. When we are ready to go over we just give them a call and they set up on the site.
We pay for the nights we are there and when we leave they move it back into storage.A lot of good people to help you and very nice campground.
The fishing is really great because if the bay is rough we just launch our boat at oyster, fish the barrier islands or ocean and if the ocean is rough the Chesapeake Bay,either way there is always a place to fish and Chris' Bait and Tackle will hook you up with the right bait, tide and place to fish.

I heard that there was a new ramp there for the ocean side and cbbt area, shorter run than using the regular state park ramp unless you want to fish the concrete ship area and north

Okay, Cherristone is a nice campground. However, I stopped there around the first week in October of 08 and had a very bad experience with them. Here's what happened.
About 7:30 PM or there about we pulled in with our 26 foot motorhome pulling our little Capri convertible. At the gate the guard said that since the office was closed we had to leave a $50 deposit with him and check in with the office in the morning to get our change. He showed us a pamphlet that showed the space rent as $30 a night. To us this was a bit high for an 8 or 10 hour parking spot but we figured we could run the air and enjoy a quiet night. Wrong answer! It was noisy with dozens of kids yelling and grownups fighting back and forth until late into the night.
In the morning the office did not open until after 8:00 and there was a long line of checkouts as we pulled into line. Upon going into the office to get our change we were told that the fee was over $50. When I asked why the guard told us $30 I was informed that this was the "Holiday Rate". What holiday? They said it was Halloween. I said that halloween was not until the end of the month and it was only the first weekend in October. The cleark said "We celebrate Halloween all month here so the holiday rates apply all month." Over $50 to park overnight, being held up until after 9:30 getting on the road because the office opened late. I was not a happy camper!
I lived in Seaview, over near Oyster for about ten years and delt with Cherrystone whenever we had an overflow of guests and family. I owned a business in Cape Charles and I delt with Cherrystone in business and for recreation for many years but will not go back because of the disrespectful way the cleark treated us on this last visit. I don't care when a holiday is, you can't charge the general public extra fees without first telling them the fact that you decided to charge holiday rates for three weeks before a holiday. That was unfair and I believe against the law. It was mis-leading to have an employee tell us $30 and charge over $50 when they check you out.
Cherrystone is a beautiful campground with lots of fun things to do. I kept my boat at Kings Creek Marina right across the cut from the campground and spent many days clamming, crabbing and fishing around Cherrystone. Yes, it is a nice place to camp but be sure it's not a Holiday acording Cherrystone.
